Aleppo Skirt
The pattern on this skirt reflects structure and quiet geometry.
Aleppo is one of the oldest continuously lived-in cities in the world. Its old quarters were built around stone courtyards, carved archways, and narrow passageways leading to hidden homes and markets. Craftsmen worked in the same stalls for generations, passing skills through apprenticeship and daily repetition. The Great Mosque, the Citadel, the covered souqs, and the stone houses all carried the marks of people who worked with their hands and knew their trades.
During the war, Aleppo became divided. Eastern neighborhoods faced years of siege and airstrikes. Markets that had stood for centuries were burned. Apartment buildings collapsed. Many families left; others stayed and organized life in whatever form was possible. Shops were rebuilt with salvaged wood. Bread was baked in shared ovens. Neighbors cleared streets block by block when the fighting faded.
Aleppo is remembered for the endurance of craftsmanship: the idea that culture is not a single monument, but thousands of small skills practiced over time, carried even when buildings fall. This piece reflects that sense of continuity. The grid of the brocade recalls patterned stone warmed by afternoon light. It honors patience, rebuilding, and the quiet work of keeping something alive.
